Cess is a French singer-songwriter currently based in Brighton, where she fronts the mysterious and multifaceted folktronica band Greenness and leads FemFriday, a collective promoting equal representation and diversity across the independent music scene.
Cess started singing as soon as she could speak and writing as soon as she could hold a pen. She performed her first gigs as a blues backing vocalist when she was 12, spent her teenage years playing in as many bands as possible – from folk duos to rock trios to jazz quartets to classical choirs to an 8-piece funk orchestra! – as well as volunteering at local music festivals before moving to England, where she spends her time between her home studio, the beach and a stage near you.
True story: Cess is an interpreter of music, but also foreign languages… and dreams, all of which has strongly influenced her work.
Favourite quote: “Singing is like a celebration of oxygen.” – Björk
